KC’s Music Monday: Tuesday housekeeping edition
Yesterday, I spent majority of the day in a car heading back from Louisville, dozing in and out of sleep and reflecting on the wild #LOUISVILLE2013FOAMPARTY (yes, there are photos!). Needless to say, I didn’t get a chance to post up my usual weekly round-up.
No better time than now to catch up, so hit the jump for some miscellaneous news and some new music!
Mista Pigz x The Vinylcologist – The Blunt Object
This mixtape dropped just about a week and a half ago, and already has helped carry me through the long ass drive to Kentucky and back this past weekend. The mix, as presented by FWORD Records in conjunction with United Crates, is in advance of the upcoming collaboration album between emcee Mista Pigz and the Vinycologist. The mix consists of all original production and verses, and is definitely something special, especially coming out of the 518. The 26-track promo will be released on hard copies for the bonus-level fans and is currently available both for stream and download.
WCDB announces full headliners for anniversary
WCDB is hitting its next milestone, 35 years as a station, and will be celebrating in true WCDB fashion on March 1st over at Valentine’s. We told you about how The Pains of Being Pure At Heart, Oberhofer and Barons in the Attic would be playing awhile back, but now the station has released its final headliners and line-up for the event.
Summer People and If Madrid will round out the line-up, with Blotto and Dirty Face also joining the fun. Both Summer People and If Madrid have recently announced that they have new albums in the works and I’m excited to hear some new material from both.
The event will take place on two stages, utilizing both floors of Valentine’s and tickets are available in advance online or at Fuzz Records.
Northern Faces
Exciting news for these guys: Equal Vision Records announced yesterday that they are signing the Albany-based musicians to their label’s roster. Northern Faces will embark on their first US tour this spring and will also be featured at SXSW this year. Congrats!
Their tour kick-off is slotted for February 23rd at the Bayou Cafe. Additionally, Northern Faces will be debuting their first release on EVR on March 5th, titled Southern Places. Get accustomed!
DeeJay Element – Reality Kings And Reason
DeeJay Element‘s debut EP was released today and features original production from the man himself, as well as feature verses from J57, Koncept, Sene, ScienZe, the Audible Doctor, Chaundon, Soul Khan, J Swiss and Gorilla Tao (who, in case you missed it, was featured on KAB as part of Masai’s Music Monday detailing the top MCs of the 518).
The EP is available for stream and download and its highly recommended you check it out. Be sure to start keeping tabs on what DeeJay Element is up to, especially as he treks to Miami for the McDonalds/Complex Magazine Flavor Battle later this week, representing the East Coast. Good luck and excellent work!
Doctor Jeep
Our friend/producer/DJ Andre, also known as Doctor Jeep, is celebrating his birthday today by sharing a preview of his forthcoming release on Hot Mom USA. Sphinx, which also features an excellent graphic (hopefully there will be t-shirts?!), will be released on President’s Day this month. Check it:
