HOOSICK FALLS — A fire Thursday night destroyed a village pizza shop and left two families homeless.

Firefighters were called to 57 Church St., a three-story building which houses Cee Cee’s Pizzeria, around 11:30 p.m. for a report of smoke, Police Chief Robert Ashe said.

They found the building ablaze, and the fire re-kindled again after they extinguished it, he said.

Ashe said they were at the scene through the morning.

Above the pizza shop are two apartments, he said. The families that live there were forced to evacuate.

The fire caused extensive damage to the building.

“The pizza business is completely destroyed,” Ashe said.

He credited firefighters with keeping the blaze from spreading to nearby buildings, many of which are old and wooden.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, Ashe said, but does not appear suspicious.
