CBX preview: party with Alex English

As co-creator and resident DJ of weekly party Girls & Boys at Webster Hall, Alex English has brought an impressive amount of talented DJs and producers together for the good party people in NYC. Girls & Boys has played host to Xavier de Rosnay of Justice, A-Trak, Skrillex, Boys Noize, Steve Aoki, The Bloody Beetroots, MSTRKRFT, DeadMau5 and countless others. He personally has over 20 years of experience DJing and is also half of the production duo, Disko Dali. He plays several weekly events in NYC, in addition to curating, promoting and DJing the Girls & Boys party and has played in numorous cities and countries, most recently in Japan. Alex English is slotted to play at Camp Bisco Friday at 9:45pm at the Grooveshark Tent.

He took some time to do a Q+A with us, scope it out beneath the cut!

With over 20 years of DJing under your belt, how do you manage to keep it fresh and remain inspired? I GREW UP A MUSIC FAN. I’M ALWAYS LOOKING FOR NEW MUSIC. I’M A FAN LIKE ANYONE ELSE. THE DAY I STOP LIKING WHAT’S NEW IS THE DAY I STOP DOING WHAT I DO. I DONT SEE THAT HAPPENING ANYTIME SOON.

How did Girls & Boys come to creation? 2 FRIENDS DRINKING BLOODY MARY’S ONE NIGHT AND SAYING… I WISH I COULD PLAY….

What have been some highlights for you over the years curating the party? FIGHTING W/ VINCENT GALLO FOR A MONTH AND HIM SUPRISING ME WITH SEAN LENNON PLAYING THE SHOW.

Onto your personal music, what can we expect to hear from you at Camp Bisco? NEW REMIXES AND ORIGINAL TRACKS BY DISKO DALI

What other festivals have you played in the past? FESTIVALS ARE NEW TO ME TO BE HONEST. SO FAR IT’S BEEN PRETTY AWESOME.

Do you prepare differently for a club night versus a festival environment? If so, how? DEFINATELY. A CLUB NIGHT I HAVE TO CONSIDER WHO IS HEADLINING AND WHAT THEY MIGHT PLAY. I’VE ASKED AROUND W/ OTHER ARTISTS ABOUT FESTIVAL ETIQUETTE. THEY ALL SAY YOU CAN PLAY WHAT MAKES YOU “YOU.”

What are you currently working on? REMIXING ARTIST UNDER THE NAME DISKO DALI

First piece of vinyl that you purchased -or- most recent album that you’ve purchased? FIRST WAS “THRILLER”. MOST RECENT… ANOTHER VINYL COPY OF “LOOKING FROM A HILLTOP” BY SECTION 25

What is a typical day like for you? EMAILS. AND MORE EMAILS.

What do you do when you’re not DJing or promoting DJs? SLEEPING. DOING NORMAL THINGS WITH FRIENDS.

Best way to combat boredom? LEARN NEW THINGS. READING BOOKS OR EXPLORING NEW IDEAS.
