TROY – Are you gathering your fishing gear in anticipation of spring or ready to start learning about why Twitter and Facebook are all over the place these days? If so, The Record’s next community forums are for you.

The first forum on bass fishing tips and tactics will be held Tuesday, March 29, hosted by Sean Wilkes, author of TroyRecord.com blog “Fishing Out Loud.”

Topics of Wilkes’ presentation will include researching new water, adjusting to the changing seasons and weather, tackle, and techniques for both boaters and shore fishermen. All are welcome to attend as the tips discussed can be applied to other species of fish as well.

Anyone who attends the forum will be eligible for large discounts on the purchase of new Kistler fishing rods.

On Thursday, March 31, another forum on how to get the most out of social media will be led by Rhea Drysdale, CEO of Outspoken Media in Troy, and Cailin Brown, an associate professor who teaches journalism at The College of Saint Rose in Albany.

Drysdale will discuss the benefits of using social media for personal branding, how to use it for two-way conversations, and using tools like TweetDeck and others to manage data feeds. She will also touch on the use of other popular social networking sites such as Reddit, Linked-In, Foursquare, and Digg.

Brown will discuss the benefits of social media from a journalism perspective based on her experience both as a reporter and professor, including some of what she currently teaches as best practices to her students.

Both events begin at 6:30 p.m. and are free, with free parking available in The Record lot. Light snacks and refreshments will also be provided.

If you are interested in attending please register online at http://bit.ly/FishingForum and http://bit.ly/SocialForum. Registration is not required to attend, but seats are limited for both forums.

We hope to see you there!
